The Start of Our Autumn Adventure - Day 1 GlenCaple

We should not have been heading off on our adventure until tomorrow but I managed to free up today from work, resulting in an earlier getaway.

We started the day doing the last minute bits to the motorhome and sorting out the chickens and hens. We had some tea and toast at about ten o clock before loading the last of our stuff into the van. The last things to go in were Badger, Sasha and Benji.

We left home at 11:15am and headed to our local garage to fill up with fuel. We soon discovered that a Friday is not a good day to be travelling on the A1! It took nearly 3 hours to do 80 miles. We stopped to eat lunch at Wetherby services before continuing our journey.

We like to stop at Mainsgill Farm shop, on the A66, when on our way to Scotland. They do the most amazing cream teas to take away! Unfortunately, they didn't have any. We did get some quiches for dinner, a slab of millionaires shortbread and some of their lovely filled rolls ready for lunch tomorrow.

We continued on our journey, arriving at GlenCaple at about 5:45pm. Had the delicious quiches, with cheesy mash, for dinner, and sat and watched the beautiful sunset and listening to oystercatchers and curlew.

GlenCaple is an authorised overnight park up that asks for a £10 donation. It is all part of the Caerlaverock Castle Estate.

We are Alan and Suzie Harding and we travel around in our Hymer Exsis T 598, called Harry, with our three rescue dogs: Sasha, Badger and Benji.  We used to keep a written diary of our travels but decided to write it as a blog instead.
